Android in January
January seems every year, to last much longer than other months. But now January is really over. Time, like every month, to look back at the past 31 days. Which events were important and what are the best apps of January 2026? We list everything.
There was some interesting news about OnePlus. The brand is said to be hanging by a thread, but the manufacturer denies it. Earlier, there were also rumours about this. Meanwhile, Oppo came out with the Reno 15 series and Huawei with the FreeClip 2. Xiaomi showed off its new Redmi Note 15 models. Motorola introduced the new Moto G series with four new models, as well as the new Razr Fold and the Motorola Signature. At Poco, the curtain went down on the Poco M8 models. Anker also showed new products.

Instagram continues testing changes. DroidApp managed to report that different accounts can now use a maximum of five hashtags instead of three. The Nova Launcher project is being revived and seems to have a new lease of life. However, the beginning is less rosy. Payment app Tikkie is still incredibly popular. The service shared statistics for the year 2025. Google made another mess of updates at the end of the month, releasing a massive emergency update for Pixel devices last Wednesday.

Best apps
We have reviewed several apps in January on DroidApp. What are the best apps of January? We list them.

Octopus Electroverse
We discussed Octopus Electroverse at length. In the extensive Electroverse review, we discuss this handy, fine charging card app. As far as we are concerned, this is an absolute must-have for EV drivers. You can access lots of charging stations throughout Europe and also in the Netherlands with this service. Nice advantage: usually the service is cheaper than ANWB. The service shows you immediately what a charging station costs, whether there are cheaper charging stations nearby and you can use the route planner. If you want to get started with Electroverse yourself, sign up via this link. You will then receive 5 euro charging credit after your first session.

ABRP 7.0
There's more news for EV drivers. The developers of A Better Route Planner have released ABRP 7.0. This application is an incredibly useful tool for planning your electric car ride. New in this version are more route options and a completely new design. Furthermore, you can assign colours to your electric car(s). You can also recognise the capacity of fast chargers even faster and there are handy charging network badges.

Gmail
Gmail has also had some attention this month. The developers of the mail service have added a new Material 3 Expressive widget. The new widget has been further refined, making it more pleasant to use. In addition, Google has announced that several Gemini 3 features are being added to the service.
Bonus tip: DroidApp app
Of course, we also have the DroidApp app. Our own app brings you the most important news around Android, smartphones, tablets, accessories, providers and everything around it. You also have access to our extensive reviews, tips, specials and more. You can also find the device database with specifications and prices in the DroidApp app.
