Google Pixel Tag has appeared online
Google appears to be gearing up to launch its own smart tracker. Even before the official launch of the Pixel 11 series, images and new information about the Google Pixel Tag have surfaced, according to 9to5Google. It seems Google is finally set to introduce its own competitor to the Apple AirTag. Several other brands, such as Samsung and Motorola, already offer similar gadgets.
The Pixel Tag is designed to help you locate items such as your keys, wallet or luggage. The tracker uses Google’s secure Find My Device network, allowing you to view the location of your belongings via your smartphone.
Striking design
The leaked image shows that the Pixel Tag will have an elongated shape. This sets it apart from most trackers on the market, which are usually round or square. The design is somewhat reminiscent of the Samsung Galaxy SmartTag, although the Pixel Tag appears slightly taller and slimmer. The leaked version is coloured ‘Fog Light’.
It is also striking that the tracker does not appear to have a built-in loop. It therefore stands to reason that Google will offer accessories or cases that allow you to attach the Pixel Tag to, for example, a set of keys or a bag.
Although the first image and product listings have now appeared online, many technical details are still missing. For example, it is not yet known whether the Pixel Tag will support Ultra Wideband (UWB), which allows you to locate a tracker with great precision. It is also unclear whether the battery is replaceable or rechargeable.
However, a product description does state that the tracker is equipped with a built-in speaker. This allows you to easily play a sound when a lost item is nearby. Furthermore, according to the description, Google emphasises that privacy and the security of personal data are central to the use of the Pixel Tag.
Announcement
Google is expected to unveil its new Pixel devices on 12 August. Whether the Pixel Tag will actually be part of that launch remains to be seen.
