WhatsApp Plus is now available
WhatsApp previously made the news with a paid subscription, which gives you access to various extra features. Since then, things have gone quiet, although a trial with a select group had previously been launched. This afternoon, we suddenly discovered the WhatsApp Plus option in WhatsApp’s settings – an option that can only be found on the primary device, and not on linked devices. With the new subscription model from parent company Meta, you gain access to various extras.

With WhatsApp Plus, you can pin more chats to the top. You also get exclusive ringtones, can change the app’s theme, choose a different app icon, and send exclusive stickers. After payment, WhatsApp also gives you the option to upgrade your chat lists. All this costs €2.49 per month, with the first month free.

If you want to take out this subscription, go to the settings in the app on the device originally linked to your account. It is an optional subscription, but what this means for the future remains to be seen. Whilst you can continue to use WhatsApp for free, it is quite possible that WhatsApp will place certain features behind a paywall. Whether this is currently the chat app’s plan is unknown, but we are already cautiously taking it into account. In such a case, the free version will be stripped down further, whilst you’ll have to dig into your pocket if you want to use certain extra features.
