Wear OS 7
Google has announced Wear OS 7, the next major update for smartwatches like the Pixel Watch. At Google I/O 2026, we got a first glimpse of what to expect, and it mainly revolves around a quieter design, more convenient notifications and stronger interfacing with Android and Gemini.

The update will be released later this year, but developers can get started on an early version now. Google says Wear OS 7 will also be more efficient, with battery savings of around 10% compared to Wear OS 6. That version was announced by Google last year.
Live Updates
One of the most visible changes is in notifications, especially the new "Live Updates". These will now appear more clearly on your watch, with dynamic information that moves with what is happening. Think, for example, of a delivery where you see an instant countdown, or an update that automatically shows more details as soon as they become available. So you don't have to click through apps as often to stay informed. We already know this from smartphones.

Widgets
The home screen of your smartwatch is also getting a makeover. The familiar tiles give way to widgets that are more like the Android 16-style. Those widgets are available in fixed sizes, such as 2×1 or 2×2, and show information from your apps at a glance. It is mainly meant to give faster access to what you use often, without unnecessary layers in between.

Gemini
Google is also working on deeper integration with Gemini. Through a new AppFunctions API, apps can work better with the AI assistant. That means you may soon be able to have tasks performed through your voice, such as placing an order or starting an action in an app, without having to tap everything yourself. Details of this are still limited, but the direction is clear: more automation from your wrist.
Fitness is also getting a more unified approach. Wear OS 7 introduces a standardised way of sports tracking, so apps use the same basis for things like heart rate and activity. This should make the experience more consistent no matter which fitness app you use. You can track all sports stats in the newly presented Google Health app.
Furthermore, media players will be made smarter. You get more control over when they appear automatically and you can switch more easily between audio devices such as Bluetooth or Google Cast.
