Is the end near for the Galaxy Z Flip 8?
Samsung may be planning to discontinue the Galaxy Z Flip series after the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8. This is according to IceUniverse, a tipster with a good track record when it comes to Samsung rumours. Samsung has not yet officially confirmed anything, so for the time being this remains speculation.
The timing of the rumour is striking. The market for compact, foldable smartphones appears to have shrunk in recent years. Whilst brands such as Oppo, Xiaomi, Vivo and Honor previously offered flip models, these devices have largely disappeared from Europe and the United States or were never released there in the first place. As a result, Samsung and Motorola are currently virtually the only major manufacturers still offering clamshell foldable phones.

In addition, the rising costs of smartphone components are also a factor. In particular, the prices of RAM have risen significantly, forcing manufacturers to charge higher retail prices. For example, the recently announced Motorola Razr 70 and Motorola Razr 70 Ultra are more expensive than their predecessors. According to Motorola, this is due to the higher cost of components.
It remains unclear whether Samsung will actually discontinue the Galaxy Z Flip series. It is also possible that the manufacturer will temporarily pause the series rather than discontinue it permanently. For the time being, therefore, this remains an unconfirmed rumour.
Further clarity may be expected during Galaxy Unpacked on 22 July, where Samsung is expected to officially unveil the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8, Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra and Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8, alongside new smartwatches.
