Galaxy flagship models in 2027
Samsung looks set to pull out all the stops with its premium smartphones next year. According to recent reports, the company is working on eight flagship models: four Galaxy S27 devices in the first half of the year and four foldable smartphones in the second half. Rumours suggest that Samsung is adopting a so-called ‘4+4’ strategy, with the aim of offering more choice to a wider range of users.
Successor to the TriFold
One of the most striking devices is the successor to the Galaxy Z TriFold. According to sources, Samsung has now begun the initial development phase and has already informed its suppliers about the project.
Like its predecessor, the new TriFold is expected to feature a screen of roughly the same size. The first model, which was released at the end of last year, has a 9.96-inch main screen and a 6.49-inch OLED screen on the outside. Thanks to its screen size of almost 10 inches, the device is particularly well-suited to watching videos, multitasking and mobile gaming.
However, the larger size does have a downside. Because of the larger screen, the TriFold is heavier than a standard foldable smartphone, making one-handed use less comfortable.
Potentially larger production run
The first TriFold was released in a limited run of around 30,000 units. According to sources, this was mainly due to high production costs. The device was therefore intended primarily to showcase Samsung’s technological capabilities, rather than to achieve high sales figures.
Now that the first model has been tested on the market, Samsung is reportedly considering scaling up production of the second generation. No final decision has yet been made on this. If the schedule remains unchanged, the new TriFold could be released around July 2027, alongside the next generation of foldable smartphones. It is not yet known whether this model will be released globally. The first generation was not released in this country.
Four foldable models
Samsung is expected to launch four foldable devices next year:
- Galaxy Z Flip 9
- Galaxy Z Fold 9
- Galaxy Z Fold 9 Ultra
- Galaxy Z Tri-Fold 2
It is striking that this also means the Flip series will be retained, despite earlier rumours that Samsung might discontinue it.
Galaxy S27 series to get a Pro model
The Galaxy S series also appears to be expanding. Alongside the Galaxy S27, Galaxy S27 Plus and Galaxy S27 Ultra, Samsung is reportedly set to introduce a Galaxy S27 Pro for the first time. According to the rumours, this model will feature a 6.47-inch screen and will be a more compact alternative to the Ultra version, whilst still boasting more advanced cameras than the standard models.
More choice for users
If all goes to plan, Samsung will launch a total of eight premium smartphones next year. This would see the company further expand its range and offer users more choice between classic smartphones and various types of foldable models. Samsung itself has not yet commented on the reports.
