Samsung has a major Galaxy Unpacked announcement on Wednesday. The company will be unveiling new smartphones, along with new smartwatches. On Friday, a whole set of press photos of the Galaxy Fold 8 and Flip 8 range appeared online. Today, the focus is on the Samsung Galaxy Watch 9, about which we’re learning more. And we can share an interesting detail about it straight away. The photos and information come from leaker Evan Blass.

The leaked images confirm that the Galaxy Watch 9 is equipped with the new Snapdragon Wear Elite chip. This is striking, as Samsung has consistently opted for its own Exynos platform in recent years. At the time, this even proved to be an advantage, as Qualcomm’s smartwatch chips had been underperforming for quite some time.

The Snapdragon Wear Elite was announced earlier this year by Qualcomm. The chip is built using a 3nm process and promises not only better performance but also extra processing power for AI functions. Qualcomm hinted at the launch that Samsung would be using the new processor, but official confirmation had not been forthcoming until now.

For instance, the watch will offer comprehensive health features, can detect sleep apnoea, gives you a quick overview of your health status and, of course, tracks all other aspects such as workouts. The watch will be available in white, black and green. A fourth version can be seen in the photo; this may be a dark blue version, although the photo isn’t very clear on this point.
