Check Google Maps before you set off
Every so often, Google’s mapping service, Google Maps, makes the news. This is usually because a new feature has been added. That’s the case today as well. Users will now see a new feature when they open a location. It’s a map that appears, titled ‘Check before you go’. This feature has been added quietly, and Google uses its existing data and AI to power it.

You’ll find this information for a huge number of locations. Whether it’s a shop, hotel, restaurant or a station: you can see at a glance what’s important to know. For example, for a hotel chain, we can see that rooms on the motorway side may be noisy, but that guests are enthusiastic about the breakfast buffet. For a camera shop, we can read that visitors are enthusiastic about the extensive collection of second-hand cameras, and that you can pop in for a passport photo without an appointment. We’re seeing this new section at both Dutch locations and those abroad. The information seems to come mainly from visitors’ experiences (and therefore their reviews).
The new feature is now being rolled out to all users. You do not need to download an update from the Google Play Store for this.
