HiLight on the Pixel 11
The Google Pixel 11 series is back in the news. The official unveiling is set for 12 August, this coming Wednesday, but in the meantime, new details continue to emerge. The latest information centres on the striking RGB LED in the camera bar on the back of the phone. According to a recent leak, new promotional images of the Pixel 11 Pro and Pixel 11 Pro Fold show that Google is marketing the lighting feature under the name HiLight. This seems to rule out the previously mentioned name, Pixel Glow.
The LED light is integrated into the camera bar on the back of the device – the same light as the flash – and is designed to highlight notifications when you place the phone face down. According to the leaked information, HiLight can display different colours for specific notifications. For example, the light would illuminate when you receive a call from a particular contact or when Gemini is active on the device. It is not yet known what other applications Google has devised. However, according to sources, there is no support for third-party apps (as yet). It is unknown whether this will be introduced in the future.
Contacts will be assigned their own colour
Evidence of the new feature has also been found in the latest version of the Google Contacts app. According to code discovered, you’ll soon be able to assign a custom HiLight colour to individual contacts. This may allow you to see at a glance who you’re trying to reach, without having to turn on the screen.
The leaked list of available colours consists of:
- Blue
- Cyan
- Green
- Orange
- Pink
- Purple
- Turquoise
- White
- Yellow
