Gemini gets new look and feel
Google has been working behind the scenes for a while on a major update for the Gemini app. The AI service is an important counterpart to ChatGPT and is incredibly popular. Not surprisingly, Google is betting big on the service. It recently released Gemini for Mac and now it's the turn of the Android (and iOS) app. A new update will soon be released for Gemini's mobile app, with a new design.

The current view
On the home page, you immediately notice the new, pill-shaped input field. This lets you quickly ask a question or give a command. To its right, you'll find options for voice input and Gemini Live, while a plus button opens additional features. That menu gives you direct access to your photos, camera and recent files. You can also upload files or add notes and other content.
Below the input bar, you will see a list of available tools, such as generating images, videos and music, as well as functions for research and learning. This layout is not new, but is now implemented more consistently across platforms, including mobile and desktop. This makes it easier to switch between devices without having to search for features again.

The new view
What stands out visually is the new background. This consists of a subtle moving colour gradient that reacts when you enter a command. Combined with a simple greeting ("Hello [name], what's on your mind?"), the app looks a lot calmer, but also more modern. The navigation has also been changed: the model selector is back in the top left, while account options have just been moved down.
