Google Health 5.02 update released: naps and activity charts

Google is rolling out a nice update for the Google Health app. The app is being updated to version 5.02. This version brings back activity charts and naps. But there are other improvements too.

Google Health 5.02

Users of Google Health on Android can look forward to a number of useful improvements. Version 5.02 of the app is currently being rolled out and includes the return of nap tracking, hourly activity data and additional options for customising dashboards to suit your preferences.

One of the most notable changes is the return of hourly activity tracking. This allows you to see once again how active you’ve been throughout the day and whether you’ve met your hourly step targets. These graphs can be added to both the ‘Today’ tab and the ‘Health’ tab.

Sleep and naps

The app also features new functions relating to sleep. For example, recorded naps are now easier to find. They have their own section within your daily sleep overview, giving you a quicker insight into your rest periods throughout the day. In addition, Google has made improvements to the detection of brief periods when you’ve been awake during the night.

It’s also becoming easier to personalise the app. In the Android app, you can now customise the order of the key health statistics by simply dragging and dropping the graphs. This allows you to place the information that’s most important to you at the top.

Improvements

Google has also resolved various issues relating to sleep tracking. Deleting sleep sessions is now fully supported, and a bug that prevented some users from editing their sleep data has been fixed.

A few bugs relating to sports and activity tracking have also been addressed. For example, manually entered workouts should no longer incorrectly show zero steps or zero distance covered.

There have also been improvements in the nutrition section. Searches for foods should now be faster, and Android users will now see calories and portion sizes directly in the search results. In addition, estimated macronutrients are displayed earlier in the entry process, giving you more insight before you save a food log.

Finally, Google is making it easier to manage data synchronised from other apps. Workout sessions, nutrition data and weight records can now be deleted directly from Google Health, without first having to navigate to a separate privacy centre.

The Android version of Google Health 5.02 is currently being rolled out in phases. It may therefore take a while before all users receive the update.
