Battery draining on Pixel
Have you noticed over the past few months that your Google Pixel’s battery is draining faster? You’re not alone. Since April, many Pixel users have reported that their smartphones are using significantly more power following a software update. Google has now said that a fix has been rolled out, although initial feedback suggests the problem hasn’t been resolved for everyone yet.
The battery issues emerged earlier this year following an update. Some users reported that their battery life had almost halved. The battery would drain noticeably quickly, particularly when the device wasn’t actively in use.
Google has since posted an update on its Issue Tracker, stating that the problem has been resolved. According to the company, the fix is included in the July 2026 update for the Pixel 9 and Pixel 10 series.
The fix is available for the following devices:
- Pixel 9
- Pixel 9 Pro
- Pixel 9 Pro XL
- Pixel 10
- Pixel 10 Pro
- Pixel 10 Pro XL
- Pixel 10a
For the Pixel 8a and Pixel 9a, the fix is still a little way off. According to Google, these devices will only receive the update with the September software update. It is striking that Google makes no mention of other Pixel smartphones in its announcement. Owners of the Pixel 7 series and various devices from the Pixel 8 series have also reported similar battery issues in recent months.
Has it been resolved?
Although Google considers the problem to be resolved, user reactions have been mixed. Dozens of comments appeared under the post on the Issue Tracker from people stating that their battery is still draining just as quickly as before.
Many users therefore feel it is too early for Google to have marked the issue as resolved. According to them, battery life has shown little or no improvement following the July update.
