Google Pixel owners complain of poor battery life after update

If you use a Pixel phone from Google, chances are you've noticed something lately: your battery is draining faster than you were used to. Since the March and April 2026 updates, many users have been reporting that their device lasts less on a single ch...

Short battery life on Pixel

Reports are circulating on the internet from Pixel users complaining of shorter battery life. According to reports in the official IssueTracker, things go wrong as soon as your device is in idle mode. Normally, the processor then switches to a so-called deep sleep mode to save energy. But since the recent updates, that doesn't seem to happen properly.

The culprit? A component of the modem, based on technology from Samsung. That would continuously stay active and keep the system awake even when your phone is in aeroplane mode and all connections are switched off. This constantly creates small interruptions in the hardware, which imperceptibly consumes extra energy.

The effect can be quite noticeable. Some users report a battery loss of 20 to 30 per cent compared to before. Especially on Pixel devices, which are not known for exceptional battery performance, this is immediately noticeable in daily use. Interestingly, the problem seems to affect multiple generations of Pixel devices. At the same time, not everyone is affected. As is often the case with software problems, it can make a difference which settings you use or which apps are running in the background. For instance, I myself use the Pixel 10 Pro XL and do not notice any significant differences.

Google has since responded by acknowledging and investigating the problem. There is no immediate solution at the moment, but a future update is expected to fix the problem.
