Information on new foldables

The information comes from a Greek technology platform that has more often shared early details about Samsung products. While official confirmation is still lacking, the new details are largely in line with previous rumours.

According to the leak, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 will get the new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset. The device would also be slightly thinner and lighter than its predecessor. Unfolded, the Fold 8 would be just 4.1 millimetres thick and weigh around 210 grams.

The battery upgrade is particularly striking. Whereas previous Fold models were stuck at 4400 mAh for years, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 would finally switch to a 5000 mAh battery.

Samsung also seems to be making strides on the camera front. The 200-megapixel main camera will remain, but the wide-angle lens is said to get a big upgrade to 50 megapixels. Few details are yet known about the telephoto lens.

Besides the regular Fold 8, Samsung is also rumoured to be working on a second foldable model tentatively known as the "Wide" version. This device would get a wider 4:3 screen ratio, which may be better suited for productivity and multitasking.

The Fold 8 Wide would also feature two 50-megapixel cameras, a 4800mAh battery and a weight of around 200g. With this, Samsung seems to want to offer different sizes and usage styles within its foldable line.

Samsung is likely to present the new foldable devices later this summer at a new Galaxy Unpacked event. Then we will also know if the leaked information is true.
