Samsung Galaxy S series gets new design
If you feel like Samsung has stuck to the same design for its Galaxy S devices for years, you are not alone. According to new rumours, the company is working on a fresh direction for the next generation, possibly the Samsung Galaxy S27. But as is often the case, everything depends on one key factor: cost. This is according to information from a Korean source.
The biggest change being talked about is in the camera design. Samsung is reportedly considering saying goodbye to the familiar vertical camera style. This is striking, as that design was recently labelled "distinctive". The reason for the possible change probably lies with the emergence of Qi2, a new standard for wireless charging with magnetic accessories. That technology requires a different internal layout of components, which affects how the back of your device looks.
Qi2 is not just about charging, but also about accessories that magnetically snap onto your phone, such as holders or chargers. Apple has been using this principle for some time, and Samsung now seems to want to follow suit. A new design could better support that functionality.
Still, it remains to be seen whether you will see this anytime soon. According to the same source, there are hefty cost issues at Samsung. This is partly due to the global memory (RAM) market, where prices and availability have been under pressure for some time. As a result, previous improvements for the Samsung Galaxy S26 series have already had to be postponed or adjusted. As a result, Samsung may have to make choices again: refresh or cut costs. And in practice, that often means pushing through major design changes. Especially when the company is also trying to stay competitive on price.
