Galaxy Z Fold 8 put through its paces in a durability test
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 has been put through its paces by JerryRigEverything, with tests including exposure to sand, scratch resistance and a bend test. With this generation, Samsung has introduced the new Flex Titanium screen construction. This combines an aluminium plate with a layer of titanium alloy and is designed to make the foldable OLED screen more resistant to the strain of repeated folding and unfolding.
The new construction is primarily designed to reduce internal stress and minimise the fold line. However, when it comes to scratches, little has changed regarding the inner screen. The plastic top layer remains relatively easy to damage. The external screen is better protected thanks to Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3, as this screen is constantly exposed to the outside environment.
The hinge was also examined during the test. According to the test, the Galaxy Z Fold 8’s refined design successfully kept sand and small particles out of the phone. It is also worth noting that the camera island is made of plastic, whilst the majority of the body is constructed from Armor Aluminium.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 also features a new 4:3 aspect ratio for the internal screen. This raises the interesting question of how the phone performs when folded. The video can be viewed below.
