New Galaxy smartwatches on the way

Samsung is gearing up for a new Galaxy Unpacked event in July, but in the meantime, more and more details are emerging about the upcoming Galaxy Watch models. New leaks offer a sneak preview of what you can expect from the Galaxy Watch 9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra 2. This brings more news about the successor to the Galaxy Watch 8, which we reviewed last year.

One of the most striking reports is that there may not be a Galaxy Watch Classic this year. Earlier rumours had suggested the arrival of a Classic model featuring the familiar rotating bezel, but according to the latest information, Samsung has decided against this for the time being. This would be in line with the pattern seen in recent years, where not every generation has featured a Classic version.

New colours

According to the leaked information, the new watches will be available in black, silver and beige. It is not yet entirely clear whether these colours apply to both models, but it seems that Samsung is expanding the colour palette slightly compared to previous generations.

Changes to the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2

The Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 also appears to be getting a few minor design tweaks. For instance, the watch is said to be taking on a slightly more angular look, and the screen bezels may be slightly thinner. According to the leak, the striking orange button on the current Ultra will also be given a different look. Instead of being entirely orange, only the rim of the button would retain that colour.

Revamped Samsung Health on Android

It’s not just the hardware that appears to be changing. Leaked images also show a revamped version of Samsung Health. Samsung seems to be working on a fresher design for the app and its health features on Android. In addition, the images show a revamped watch face selector, which may make selecting and customising watch faces more straightforward. There are also indications of a revamped design for buttons within apps such as the compass and on certain watch faces.

Although this information comes from recent leaks, Samsung itself has not yet officially confirmed anything. More clarity is expected during the Galaxy event, which is rumoured to be held in July. We are also likely to see the new foldables then.
