Gemini is going to replace the Assistant
No, Google has not forgotten about replacing the Google Assistant with Gemini. The plan to complete this before the end of the year 2025 has been postponed. On Google's support page, the company reveals that Gemini will replace Google Assistant on smartphones in 2026. With this, there is a postponement for several months. When the replacement will be finalised is not shared by Google. However, the company will release more details about it in the coming months.
In a response, Google commented, "We are adjusting our previously announced schedule to ensure a seamless transition. We will continue to upgrade Assist users to Gemini on mobile devices in 2026."
It is not only on mobile devices that Google Assistant will be replaced by Gemini. This will also happen on smartwatches with Wear OS, Android Auto, the Google Home speakers and on Google TV, for example.
