Oppo Reno 16 series announced already: here’s what’s new

Less than half a year after the Oppo Reno 15 series was unveiled, Oppo has announced the new Reno 16 models. The manufacturer is launching three models in this range, featuring what it describes as a ‘3D Pop Planet design’. This differs from the Northe...

Oppo Reno 16 is official

Oppo has officially unveiled the Reno 16 series. The new range comprises the Reno 16 Pro, Reno 16 and Reno 16 F, and focuses on creative photography, AI features and a striking new design. It is remarkable that the manufacturer is already unveiling the new series, given that the brand only announced the Reno 15 models back in January. We have previously published, amongst other things, an in-depth review of the Oppo Reno 15 Pro from that series.

One of the most striking innovations is the so-called 3D Pop Planet design, whereas the previous generation featured the Northern Lights design. The Pop White variant in particular stands out thanks to a special visual effect that changes depending on the angle of the light and movement. Furthermore, the back panel and the camera island blend seamlessly into one another, which, according to Oppo, not only creates a sleeker look but also reduces dust build-up around the cameras.

For photography enthusiasts, Oppo has added several new features. For instance, the series features a 50-megapixel selfie camera with a 100-degree field of view. On the back, you’ll find a triple-camera system comprising a main camera, a telephoto lens and an ultra-wide-angle camera. The Reno 16 Pro also features a 200-megapixel main camera.

Another new feature is Pop Cam, a camera function that lets you apply vintage effects with a single tap, such as a digital camera look, instant film style or lighting effects. Oppo has also brought together various AI tools in a new Create hub within the Photos app. With AI Remix Collage, you can combine photos and short videos into creative compositions with stickers, animations and text. Popout Collage 2.0 also returns, making subjects appear to jump out of the frame, as it were.

Video recording also receives additional support. Features such as 4K Auto Straighten Video help keep footage level whilst walking, whilst Dual View Video 2.0 enables improved stabilisation and smooth switching between cameras.

On the software front, the series runs on ColorOS 16, supplemented with new AI features. For example, Oppo introduces AI Mind Space, a central hub for storing and organising information. With AI Snap Key, you can quickly capture and save screen content. There are also features such as AI Bill Manager for organising expenses and AI Menu Translation, which visually explains foreign menus.

The devices are also equipped with large batteries of at least 6000 mAh, whilst the Reno 16 F features a 6500 mAh battery. Fast charging is possible at up to 80 watts on the Reno 16 Pro and Reno 16.

Alongside the smartphones, the manufacturer also unveiled the new Oppo Bubble. This magnetic accessory features a small AMOLED screen that can, amongst other things, serve as a viewfinder for the rear camera and be used remotely as a shutter button.

Oppo will announce the exact dates when the devices will be available in the Netherlands at a later date, along with the prices for the three different models.
