Android 17 QPR1 Beta 5
Last week, Google began rolling out Android 17 to Pixel devices. The Android version isn’t quite finished yet, as Google has now released a new test version, which brings a host of improvements. One of the new features is a notification warning you of any potential charges when you switch on mobile data. What’s new is that you can now disable this ‘tile’, so you no longer receive this notification. On the start-up screen, you’ll now see a brief display of the Gemini Intelligence logo.

More interesting is the list of bug fixes that have been implemented. These are the following fixes:
- An issue in the pin dashboard that prevented users from stopping screen recordings or saving video files. (Issue #296368569,Issue #328539170)
- An issue where the camera app would temporarily freeze or stutter shortly after being opened from a dormant state. (Issue #330488811)
- An issue that caused the screen to freeze with a pixelated bottom bar when the device woke up from Always-On Display mode. (Issue #515393542,Issue #515497396)
- A timeout issue where the Download Manager was unable to complete downloads when excluded from an active VPN connection. (Issue #475985649)
- An issue causing the estimated charging time on the lock screen to be displayed inconsistently compared to the charging screensaver. (Issue #489503595)
- An issue causing the Private Space user interface to freeze and locked private apps to appear incorrectly in the launcher’s search results. (Issue #515631415)
- A system crash and a frozen device whilst downloading games. (Issue #515364954)
- An issue where a non-functional bubble option appeared incorrectly in the context menu of archived apps. (Issue #514585702)
- A system error in the WebView that caused Monopoly Go to freeze and crash when opening mini-games. (Issue #516576731)
- Widgets on the home screen would disappear or become unavailable in the widget selector after restarting the device. (Issue #488125748, Issue #505117543, Issue #505671079, Issue #497140330, Issue #506685943, Issue #510967059)
The update is being rolled out to Pixel devices in the beta programme. The changes will be included in the stable update at a later date.
