Have Realme and OnePlus merged?
It seems OnePlus is taking another big step in its development. According to recent reports, the brand has merged with Realme, both in the Chinese market and internationally. This may sound like a technical reorganisation, but it could have noticeable consequences for users over time.

The two brands have long been under the same Oppo umbrella, but now product development, marketing and service teams are said to be merged as well. In practice, that means OnePlus operates less independently than before. Whereas the brand was once known for a distinct identity of its own, it now seems to be more absorbed into a larger structure.
This news does not come out of the blue. Earlier, it became clear that OnePlus is rethinking its position in Europe, with reports of staff changes and a revised strategy. At the same time, new product announcements for the international market remain absent. This reinforces the perception that the brand may be retreating or at least taking a different direction. For instance, the Nord 6 was recently released, but information for Europe on this is missing.
For now, it mainly raises questions: will OnePlus still be active in our region? And what will happen with software updates and support? Officially, the company says that existing users will just keep support, but in the longer term the focus may shift. Realme, for example, does operate in Europe, but has a different positioning and target group than OnePlus traditionally had. In addition, Realme is not active in the Netherlands.
The merger does not necessarily have to be negative. It could also mean that resources are used more efficiently and new devices are developed faster. At the same time, it may mean that the distinctive character that OnePlus once grew big with will disappear.
