No more proprietary software from OnePlus and Realme?
According to sources, Oppo is undergoing a major reorganisation in which OnePlus and Realme are being increasingly integrated. Not only are the hardware and services set to become more closely aligned, but software development is also being merged. Maintaining three different Android interfaces has simply become too costly.

For future devices, this means that ColorOS will become the standard for all three brands. It is not yet clear from which model this change will take effect, or whether any further smartphones will be released running OxygenOS or Realme UI. Nor is anything yet known about support for existing devices currently running this software.
The move does not come entirely out of the blue. Back in 2021, OnePlus and Oppo announced that their software development teams would be collaborating more closely. Since then, OxygenOS and ColorOS have become increasingly similar technically. Although the differences have narrowed in recent years, both systems have retained their own names. In terms of functionality, the software from both brands is very similar.

For many OnePlus users, this could be a striking change. For years, OxygenOS in particular was known as a fast, user-friendly version of Android with plenty of options for enthusiasts. The software became a key part of the brand’s identity. If the rumours are true, that name will soon disappear completely.
For Realme users, the transition is likely to be less of a big deal. This is because Realme UI is already largely based on ColorOS and shares many features and the overall look and feel.
This software change is in line with earlier reports that Oppo intends to further integrate the OnePlus and Realme brands. There have also been rumours circulating for some time about the future of OnePlus in Europe, although there is still no official confirmation of this.
