Gradient Weather app
Here on DroidApp, a recurring theme is weather apps and our annual weather app test. A weather app that adapts its appearance to the weather outside sounds like a fun idea. Gradient Weather does just that. On a sunny day, the interface turns warm amber, during a storm it turns deep blue-grey with lightning effects, and on a clear night, a tranquil starry sky appears behind the temperature. Foggy mornings are given muted, soft tones.

If you want to control how the app looks, you can do that too. You choose Material You with the colours of your background, an AMOLED mode with real black, or a colour of your own. There are further fonts available for better readability. Then there are secret themes, which you unlock with Premium.
Forecast and notifications
In terms of weather information, you get current conditions, an hourly forecast and a daily overview of up to 7 days. Tap an hour or day and you'll see an extended overview. Useful is the built-in accuracy engine that tracks how well the forecasts match the actual weather in your area and makes small corrections accordingly. Results vary by location, but the idea is good.

Notifications are extensively configurable. Think notifications for frost, UV index, pollen by allergen, air quality, air pressure changes and official weather warnings. There is even a clothing advisor in beta that gives an outfit suggestion for the day. For free you set two active notifications, with Premium there are unlimited.
Weather effects and map
Weather maps are customisable and self-ordering. From a precipitation bar chart with radar data per minute to sea conditions, sunrise and sunset with live sun position, wind compass and moon phase. Some maps are region-specific and are hidden when no data is available.

The map shows you live weather in your area, with weather recordings from public stations and emoji messages from people nearby spotting rain, snow or a rainbow. The map also lets you submit your own weather recording. For the home screen, two widgets are available, a small one with icon and temperature and a large one with hourly forecast and optional week view.
