The Xiaomi Mix Fold 5 is on its way
Xiaomi appears to be gearing up for the launch of its next foldable smartphone. The upcoming Xiaomi Mix Fold 5 has surfaced in a Chinese certification under model number 2608BPX34C. That may seem like a small step, but it could reveal something about the manufacturer’s plans.
It is striking that the Mix Fold 5 has received this certification earlier than other devices from the anticipated Xiaomi 18 series. This has led to speculation that Xiaomi may launch its new foldable phone earlier than the rest of its new smartphone range. Whilst the Xiaomi 18 series is expected to be released around September, the Mix Fold 5 could potentially be announced as early as August.
One reason for this may be that the Mix Fold 5 is unlikely to rely on Qualcomm’s as-yet-unannounced Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 chip. According to earlier rumours, Xiaomi is opting for its own Xring O3 processor. This chip is said to be the successor to the Xring O1, which was introduced last year.

Quite a bit is now known about the expected specifications as well. For instance, the Mix Fold 5 is said to feature an internal foldable screen measuring approximately 7.5 to 7.6 inches, with the fold line reportedly barely visible. There is also talk of a 200-megapixel camera, a side-mounted fingerprint scanner and a 6000 mAh battery. Wireless charging is also said to be included.
In addition, there are rumours that the Mix Fold 5 will be the first device to launch with a new version of HyperOS, based on Android 17. This will be HyperOS 4, and reports on this have already surfaced. The brand is said to be following in Apple’s footsteps with Liquid Glass.
Not everything sounds equally positive, however. According to earlier reports, the price is expected to be around 10,000 Chinese yuan – equivalent to approximately 1,280 euros, excluding taxes. This suggests that Xiaomi is once again targeting the premium segment of the foldable smartphone market. This creates a competitor for, for example, Motorola’s Razr Fold. We discussed this in detail in our Motorola Razr Fold review from last weekend.
For now, we’ll have to wait for an official announcement, but the recent certification suggests that the launch may be closer than previously thought.
