WhatsApp stops using avatars, removing them from your profile

Do you use WhatsApp and have you ever set an avatar? Then it is good to know that this feature will soon disappear. According to the latest information, Meta has started phasing out avatars in the app.

End for avatar in WhatsApp

The first step is already visible to some users. A notification appears in the app that avatars will soon be unavailable. Editing your avatar will also be the first to be disabled. Eventually, they will disappear from WhatsApp profiles altogether.

Avatars were added in late 2022 as an alternative to your profile picture. You could create a digital version of yourself and use it in your profile or as a sticker in chats. Yet the feature never really seems to have caught on widely. Many users just kept using their own photo, so avatars kind of faded into the background. This is now reflected in the decision to discontinue it. Meta has not yet mentioned an exact date when everything will disappear for good, but so the process has already begun.

It's not just the avatars themselves that are disappearing. Even the accompanying stickers, which are based on your digital character, will eventually be removed. That means you won't be able to create, modify or send them in conversations anytime soon.

What will remain is the regular profile picture. That will not change and will just remain the default way of showing yourself on WhatsApp.
