WhatsApp with the @all tag
Do you use WhatsApp for group chats? If so, you can look forward to a number of handy new features soon. WhatsApp is adding new features that make it easier to make decisions, reach everyone at once and start new group chats from an existing chat. The features will be rolled out gradually over the coming weeks.
Polls
The poll feature in WhatsApp is being expanded with three new options. For example, you can now set an end time, which will automatically close the poll once the chosen time has elapsed. You can also choose to hide the names of voters. This means group members won’t be able to see who voted for which option, which, according to WhatsApp, should make it a more comfortable way to share your preference. You can also edit a poll question up to 15 minutes after sending it. This is useful if you spot a typo or want to clarify the question.
Reach everyone at once with @all
Another new feature is @all. This allows you to send a notification to all group members at once, without having to tag everyone individually. The feature is intended for important or time-sensitive messages, such as a change to an appointment, a deadline or a last-minute update. There is, however, a restriction for groups with more than 32 participants: only administrators can use the @all mention in these groups. You retain control over the notifications yourself. Even if a group chat is muted, an @all message can still reach you, but you can disable these notifications via the settings if you wish.
New group chat with a single tap
WhatsApp is also making it easier to split off a conversation from an existing group. You can now create a new group chat with members from an existing group with just one tap.
This means you no longer have to manually add everyone again. According to WhatsApp, this is useful, for example, for planning a surprise party, organising an event or having a separate conversation about a specific topic, without cluttering up the main group.
