Telegram returns to Wear OS: chat and more from your smartwatch

Telegram for Wear OS

Telegram is further expanding its presence on smartwatches. Following the announcement of a new app for the Apple Watch earlier this week, a dedicated Wear OS app is now also available. This marks Telegram’s official return to Google’s smartwatch platform.

The new app gives you access to your full conversations directly from your smartwatch. You can browse chats, read messages and scroll through conversations without having to pick up your smartphone. Shared media is also supported. Photos, videos and even location pins can be viewed directly on the watch screen. This means the app offers more functionality than just displaying notifications.

Another notable addition is support for voice messages. You can play back received voice memos, as well as record and send new voice messages yourself from your wrist. The app also supports sending stickers within conversations.

Telegram has also added some handy management features. For instance, you can pin, mute or delete chats. For users who use Telegram frequently, this can be a practical addition to the smartwatch experience.

The return to Wear OS is notable, as Telegram removed its previous smartwatch app from the Play Store in 2021. Five years later, the platform has therefore opted once again for a fully-fledged smartwatch app, with considerably more features than just notifications.

You can install Telegram directly onto your smartwatch via the Play Store app on your watch.
