Google Health 5.03 is a handy update with more statistics

Google Health is the successor to the Fitbit app. The update to Google Health 5.03 introduces a number of improvements, including features relating to naps, and also provides you with more health statistics.

Google Health 5.03 released

Google has begun rolling out Google Health 5.03, an update that adds various improvements to the health app. The new version is now available for iOS and is being rolled out gradually to Android. One of the most notable changes is that naps now count towards your total sleep duration.

With the update, you can further personalise the Today tab. You now have the option to add much more health data to your daily dashboard. These include metrics such as heart rate variability, respiratory rate, oxygen saturation (SpO2), resting heart rate, skin temperature variation, blood glucose, mindful minutes and days, resilience, and your intake of protein, fat and carbohydrates. The friends’ leaderboard can also be added to the overview. This allows you to see the data you find most important at a glance.

The sleep overview has also been expanded. Naps lasting longer than twenty minutes are now included in your total sleep duration over a 24-hour period. On the Sleep tab, you can view both your main sleep and your total sleep, including naps, and track how these have changed over time. On the Today tab, only the duration of your main sleep remains visible.

In addition, Google has resolved a number of issues relating to exercise tracking. For example, errors have been fixed where some users saw incorrect distances during swimming sessions. Discrepancies between the altitude measurements in Google Health and data from Strava or TCX files have also been addressed.

For iPhone users, version 5.03 also introduces features that Android users previously received with version 5.02. For example, you can now reorder the key statistics on the Health tab more easily by dragging and dropping cards. The food search function has also been improved, with search results now displaying portion sizes and calories straight away. Furthermore, naps are displayed more clearly thanks to a separate tab within the daily sleep view.
