Android 17 QPR2 Beta 2
Google has released a new beta version of Android. Android 17 QPR2 Beta 2 is now available for a wide range of Pixel smartphones and tablets, following the release of the Android 17 QPR1 Beta 8 update earlier this week. The update builds on the previous beta and is expected to culminate in a stable release in December 2026. It is worth noting that Google has not shared any official release notes for this update. However, a few visible changes have already been spotted.
Minor changes to the interface
One of the first changes is the software’s codename. Whereas Android 17 was previously referred to as ‘CinnamonBun’, this test version is now simply called ‘DEV’ internally.
In addition, the updated icon for the Settings app is now visible to more users. Some testers were already able to see this icon during the QPR1 beta following a clean install, but in QPR2 Beta 2 the roll-out appears to be more widespread. Furthermore, no major new features have been discovered as yet. Google has not published a list of bug fixes or improvements either, so it remains unclear exactly which issues have been resolved.
Availability
Android 17 QPR2 Beta 2 is available for a wide range of Pixel devices. The update supports, amongst others:
- Pixel 6a
- Pixel 7 series
- Pixel 8 series
- Pixel 9 series
- Pixel 10 series
- Pixel Fold
- Pixel 9 Pro Fold
- Pixel 10 Pro Fold
- Pixel Tablet
Pixel users who are part of the Android Beta Programme can easily install the update via an OTA update.
Pixel 6 and 6 Pro are left out
Not every Pixel model is still included. Google has confirmed that the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro will no longer receive new QPR2 betas. These devices are reaching the end of their software support, meaning the Android 17 QPR1 beta series is the final test version for these models. The Pixel 6a, however, remains supported for the time being and will continue to receive this new beta as normal.
More changes expected
As this is still an early test version, Google appears to be focusing primarily on the further development of Android 17 for the time being. No major new features are visible yet, and the company has not shared any details about them either. It is expected that further changes will come to light in upcoming beta updates. Ultimately, Android 17 QPR2 is due to be released as a stable version for supported Pixel devices in December 2026.
