Android 17 QPR1 Beta 6

Google has released a new beta version of Android 17 for Pixel smartphones. With the rollout of Android 17 QPR1 Beta 6, the company is taking a significant step towards the final release. This version is particularly important for developers, as the software has now reached the so-called Platform Stability phase. This means that the APIs are finalised and apps can be further optimised for the final release.

For users, this update is primarily about fixing bugs. For example, an issue has been resolved that prevented users from setting multiple languages for the spell checker. The volume buttons in the Clock app are also working as intended again. Furthermore, Google has worked on improving the stability of the interface. Swiping quickly through the media carousel used to cause visual glitches in the quick settings. That animation has now been improved, which should make the interface feel smoother.

A bug has also been fixed in WindowManagerGlobal, a component of Android that caused apps to crash in some cases. In addition, a Wi-Fi hotspot will now display the name you have set, rather than a default name.

Are you using the Android Beta version and still encountering issues? If so, you can easily submit a bug report to Google via the Android Beta Feedback app. The Android Beta community on Reddit also remains available for sharing experiences.

Android 17 QPR1 Beta 6 has build number CP31.260618.005 and is available for a wide range of Pixel devices. The update supports, amongst others, the Pixel 6a, Pixel 7 series, Pixel 8 series, Pixel 9 series, Pixel 10 series, the Pixel Tablet and the foldable Pixel Fold models.

With this beta, the focus is clearly on refining Android 17. No major new features are mentioned; Google is primarily focused on improving stability and resolving known issues before the final version is released.
