Sony: 'we are not stopping Xperia smartphones'

Sony fans can breathe a sigh of relief. The manufacturer has confirmed that it will not stop releasing smartphones in the Xperia line. This while several small manufacturers have already thrown in the towel.

Sony continues with smartphones

Sony remains committed to smartphones. The Japanese manufacturer firmly believes in its Xperia phones and this will not be outsourced to another manufacturer, nor will it be discontinued. Confirmation of this comes from the company's CEO at the quarterly earnings announcement. Sony is a small player in the smartphone market, and several small brands have thrown in the towel in recent years. We saw this with LG, HTC and most recently Asus, for example.

International media report that new IMEI ranges have surfaced, of Xperia handsets that are forthcoming. Meanwhile, the manufacturer's portfolio has thinned out considerably. Currently, the brand is releasing high-end devices in the Xperia 1 series. In the mid-end segment, there is the Sony Xperia 10 series. There is also the Xperia 5 series, although it has been quiet there for years. In 2024, it was rumoured that Sony would discontinue the Xperia 5.
