Is Samsung discontinuing TriFold?
A new, unusual design and a new step in foldables. That is how the Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold was and is seen. You can fold the South Korean manufacturer's smartphone not once, but twice. Just a fortnight ago, DroidApp gave you the Galaxy Z TriFold preview. Indeed, the smartphone was on display at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. According to new reports, Samsung will now stop selling the special device. The smartphone was officially presented in early December. The release was limited to South Korea and the US, among others.

According to Korean media, Samsung now plans to stop sales in South Korea soon. One more delivery would follow, after which the device may no longer be available there. In the US, the TriFold is expected to remain available while current production stocks last. That probably means there will only be a limited number of new deliveries before the device is permanently sold out.
When Samsung first made the smartphone available, the stock was sold within minutes. The same happened with subsequent deliveries. Meanwhile, it seems clear that the stock was relatively small from the start. The first two deliveries reportedly consisted of only about 3,000 units per batch. Samsung indicated at the time of the announcement that the TriFold was not intended as a mass-market product for a large audience.

A major reason for the possible cessation of sales is the high production costs, according to the report. This makes it difficult to make a profit on the device. In addition, shortages of components such as RAM and storage chips play a role, putting further pressure on margins.
Whether the Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold will get a sequel is currently unknown.
