Pedometer of Pixel Watch models hits all the way through

If you are in possession of a Google Pixel Watch, you may have to lose faith in it for a while. In particular, the pedometer is showing strange behaviour. What's going on?

Pixel Watch is confused

Do you use a Pixel Watch to track your daily activity? Then it's good to pay extra attention. This is because the latest software update seems to be causing confusion in your health stats.

A few weeks ago, Google started rolling out the March 2026 update for the Pixel Watch. Soon, users noticed that something wasn't quite right. For instance, for some people, measurements such as skin temperature and SpO2 suddenly disappeared from the Fitbit app.

But it didn't stop there. Meanwhile, several users reported that other metrics also showed strange behaviour. Especially the pedometer doesn't always seem reliable anymore. Some Pixel Watch owners suddenly see their number of steps double. Of course, this also affects other data, such as the distance you would have travelled.

The number of calories burned is also no longer accurate in some cases. Even with little movement, strikingly high values are displayed. This makes it difficult to get a good picture of your daily activity.

The cause

Exactly what the cause is remains unclear for now. Initially, the problem seemed to be linked to the March update. Yet new information points in a different direction. Namely, the problem seems to be not so much in the watch update itself, but rather on the side of the Fitbit app or its servers.

For instance, the same behaviour is also seen on a Pixel Watch 4 still running on the December 2025 update. In addition, several users indicate that the problems started only after a recent update to the Fitbit app.

At the moment, Google has not officially acknowledged the problem. So it remains to be seen when a solution will be released. Until then, it is useful to take your stats information with a grain of salt.
