OnePlus 15 announced for Europe: new design, huge battery

The OnePlus 15 has been going around the rumour circuit for a while now, and even it has already been announced for the Chinese market. In recent weeks, we were able to share more and more with you, and now the new OnePlus 15 has officially been announ...

OnePlus 15 coming to Europe

OnePlus has just announced the new OnePlus 15 for the general public. After the device previously got its release in China, we can now share you all the details for the European market. The smartphone will also be released in the Netherlands and Belgium, of course, and the spectacle should be bigger than ever before.

OnePlus 15

Indeed, according to the manufacturer, the OnePlus 15 is not just an update, but a transformation. First of all, that should be reflected in the design. The last time the design was shaken up was in 2020 with the OnePlus 10. With the OnePlus 15, it uses more rounding in the design. We will also start seeing this so-called 'round corner' in future devices, the company announced at its prebriefing in Prague, which DroidApp attended.

DroidApp could already share some things with you over the past few days. For instance, we shared some camera samples of the OnePlus 15 and also published the OnePlus 15 unboxing on Monday.

Design

There are three colours to choose from; Infinite Black with a matte finish. There is also a gold-coloured Sand Storm with Micro Arc Oxidation layer which is more scratch-resistant, and is also stronger than aluminium and titanium. The third colour is Ultra Violet, with a slight purple glow. With a thin screen edge (bezel) of 1.15 millimetres on all sides, a lot of screen area remains. The OnePlus 15 offers water and dust resistance up to IP69X.

Performance

OnePlus is the first in Europe to equip its device with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, with up to 16GB of working memory and 512GB of storage. A special Cryo-Velocity aerogel layer keeps the screen cooler. This layer is located near the processor, where the phone can therefore get hot.

An innovation we also see in the display. Whereas in 2020 the market was introduced to the 120Hz refresh rate, in the OnePlus 15 this has been upgraded to a 165Hz speed for even smoother images, although this high refresh rate is there for gaming only. Otherwise, it remains adaptive between 1-120Hz. The 6.78-inch display offers 1.5K resolution. In dark environments, the screen should be able to dim down to 0.5 nits. Should you have car sickness, there is special Motion Sickness Prevention. Moving balls on the screen should eliminate these complaints.

The OnePlus 15 offers 15 antennas, support for Bluetooth 6.0 and WiFi 7. AI Smart Link should improve connectivity in environments with poor signal. There is also dual eSIM support. This feature will come via an update in Q1 2026. In terms of performance, there is support for 'high fps' so you can game even faster.

Battery

Most notable is the device's 7300mAh battery. A massive capacity that is way ahead of manufacturers. OnePlus promises at least four years of battery health for this silicon battery, meaning it should still offer at least 80 per cent capacity after four years. Fast charging is also on tap, this can be done with 120W SuperVOOC. Full charging takes 39 minutes. Through PD charging, there is support for a 36W charging speed. Wireless charging can be done with 50W.

Camera

Three cameras can be found on the back of the OnePlus 15, all of which are 50-megapixel cameras. On the front, a 32-megapixel front-facing camera is placed. The cameras offer RGBW support for even better colour matching. A new camera module has been chosen that is also more pleasant to hold in the hand.

With a host of improvements in hardware and software, OnePlus aims to offer an even better camera experience. For this, the brand no longer works with Hasselblad, but instead uses its own image processing system DetailMax Engine. The new camera on the OnePlus 15 should deliver even richer detail. Through the Clear Night Engine, it should also be possible to take beautiful photos at night. You should see this reflected when photographing things with text, among other things, with the text being clearer and easier to read. The OnePlus 15 is capable of 4K filming at 120fs. Things like (skin) colour should also be captured even better. The phone is further capable of underwater photography.

OxygenOS 16

Of course, the OnePlus 15 comes straight to market with OxygenOS 16, the skin based on Android 16. This version should be even faster and improved. Among other things, switching between apps works even faster. This new version was announced earlier and is also coming to previous OnePlus devices. The smartphone will get four Android upgrades and six years of security updates.

AI plays an important role and here we again see OnePlus AI with Mind Space, which we previously discussed in the OnePlus AI article. You can launch the functionality with three fingers and a swipe, or via the Plus Key on the side of the smartphone. Things like location, dates or the like, can be collected and added directly to the calendar.

Also, you can save things like places you want to explore on your city break. You add these to a collection so you can quickly find them again. By linking to AI, or Gemini, you can create your perfect itinerary. Also, more languages are now supported, and the service seems to be able to handle Dutch as well.

OnePlus promises high privacy protection for using the AI functionality. OnePlus will not have access to your data. In doing so, there are several layers of protection in the hardware. Also, all traffic is protected and nothing is stored in the cloud.

Another new tool is AI Writer. It lets you put text in a chart or table, just by selecting the text. Also, it can help you come up with a caption for your photo on social media. AI Scan, for instance, can recognise a presentation, and automatically crop it and save it as a PDF or image. PlayLab offers additional options. For instance, you can photograph and save a menu, add extra effects to a photo and, for example, change the colour of an object in a photo. Think of the colour of a coat.
