New rumours: 'OnePlus quits in several markets, including Europe'

For some time now, reports have been circulating that OnePlus will stop releasing devices in different regions’s and countries. Today, a new source reports that this will be the case. This would be bad news for users in Europe, the UK and the US.

End near for OnePlus?

It looks like the end is near for OnePlus. The phone manufacturer announced the OnePlus 15 with much fanfare late last year and also came out with the OnePlus 15R, but after that it remained quiet. While there are rumours of new devices, such as the Nord 6, it remains to be seen whether the brand will release them in Europe. Yogesh Brar, a source who more often shares early information from the telecoms world, reports that the end is near for OnePlus. Although the brand will continue to sell devices in China and focus on the budget and mid-range series in India, it is stopping in other regions. Specifically, according to the source, this would be bad news for the EU, the UK and the US.

This is not the first time this news has hit the media. Earlier, there were reports that the end was near for OnePlus. At the time, the brand denied the news. To several media outlets, the manufacturer is once again reporting that it will continue operations, with full post-purchase user support warranty, including software updates and your rights regarding warranty. It's not a rock-solid denial, and possibly indicates that the news is true, but that they don't want to worry consumers.

OnePlus 15 snelle instellingen

Interestingly, OnePlus has asked key employees in several regions to switch to Oppo or Realme if they want to stay with the company. Oppo is OnePlus' sister company and gets a significant stake in the business. Realme is a subsidiary of Oppo and that brand was previously made part of the parent company as a sub-brand. Also, several plans seem to have been discontinued at OnePlus, including a new foldable. Oppo wants to streamline its own porfolio because of rising hardware costs and OnePlus' falling market share. By 2025, OnePlus would see its market share plummet 30.5 per cent, compared to 2024.

What OnePlus will look like in the coming months is unknown. Since the brand does continue in other regions, it is possible that it will continue with updates and the like, should it indeed throw in the towel. Oppo, incidentally, is increasingly betting on the European market. At Mobile World Congress, Oppo announced that the Find X9 Ultra is coming.
