Google discontinues Darkweb reports
About 2.5 years ago, Google came out with a new service that could search for you whether personal data was floating around on the worldwide web. And specifically on the darkweb. This is a closed off part of the internet, which cannot be accessed through regular ways. It is also regularly in the news because of illegal activities. Not infrequently, personal data is shared, captured in a hack, for example. The dark web report alerts users who want it, if their information appears on this dark web. This might include e-mail addresses, but also other information such as passwords.

In an e-mail to users, Google now announces it is discontinuing the service. From 15 January 2026, it will no longer check for new results. From 16 February 2026, the tool and data will no longer be available. According to Google, the report offered general information, but feedback would show that it did not offer useful follow-ups. With the closure of the service, Google now wants to focus on clearer, actionable steps to protect your information online. Also, the company promises to continue developing tools to protect you and your personal data.
