Google Photos comes with Meme feature, better search and more

Google is tinkering heavily with the Google Photos’s app. This application is being enhanced with several new features. Among others, it is working on a better search function, a meme function and more. What does Google have in store?

Google Photos gets new features

If you use Google Photos to view your taken pictures, then you can look forward to new features that are in development. There has been work on updates that add new features, as well as features that improve existing options. AI will have a prominent role in this.

When it comes to image editing, you will get more freedom thanks to new AI tools. In this regard, Google is betting on Nano Banana, an editing tool that can combine existing photos with new ideas. For example, you can add elements, merge images or mix your photos with well-known internet formats. One notable example is 'Me Meme'. With this feature, you upload a photo of yourself and choose a well-known meme. The AI then creates a new, personalised version of it, with you at the centre.

AI

Google is also working on expanding features that combine photos and videos. This will include broader support for converting photos to videos, although this feature is not yet available for now. What is clear, however, is that Google plans to further expand the existing ability to generate videos with custom text prompts. With these, you can accurately describe movements, styles and effects. The AI provides suggestions for inspiration and you can later refine the result by adjusting the text input.

Not all AI functions run smoothly. The AI search function 'Ask Photos', which is not yet available in our region, gets mixed reactions. Although the feature can answer complex queries, it still regularly makes mistakes in simple searches. Google acknowledges this problem and is working on improvements. In version 7.61, the company is testing a new switch that lets you easily switch between the AI search feature and the classic search feature. If you turn off the AI option, the traditional search method becomes default again and the app remembers this choice.

Discovering content in Google Photos is also changing. Google is working on a TikTok-like feature called 'Related Videos'. As with Reminders, the app will automatically compile clips based on events, locations or themes. These videos appear in a new 'Discover' section, where you can scroll through a vertical feed. For each video, you can mark it as a favourite, share it, view details or go straight back to 'Watch this day'.

When the new options will become available is not yet known.
