The forgotten phone: Sony Ericsson K700i

When you hear the name Sony Ericsson K700i, does a light come on? If you see the phone from the originally Swedish-Japanese manufacturer, you are bound to recognise it. We discuss the device today in ‘The Forgotten Phone’.

Sony Ericsson K700i

The Sony Ericsson K700i appeared on the market in 2004. The phone stood out for its basic design and rather hefty thickness, although that was nothing special for the time. 2004 increasingly became the year when camera and Bluetooth on phones became commonplace, an MP3 ringtone became increasingly hipper (instead of realtone) and there was also the beginning of 3G. But what was so special about the Sony Ericsson K700i?

The Sony Ericsson K700i was incredibly popular, especially among young people. The device became the rival of devices like the Samsung D500 and the Nokia 6230. In terms of appearance, it was a fairly compact, simple device with a silver front and a dark blue back. Recognisable among the various Sony Ericsson phones was the joystick. The phone from the Swedish-Japanese manufacturer was 19 millimetres thick. Furthermore, most of the device was 99 x 46 millimetres, making the K700i quite compact. Sony Ericsson equipped the device with a 1.78-inch TFT screen with a resolution of 220 x 176 pixels.

There was a VGA (0.3 megapixel) camera with an LED flash for darker environments. We also saw a storage of 41MB, there was a simple media player and an FM radio. The internal memory sounds like relatively limited now, but it was quite a lot at the time. Several games were supposed to help with time entertainment. There was also an internet browser, which ran via a GPRS connection.

The Sony Ericsson K700i was positively received by the public. For example, the display and design were received positively. For some, it was even one of the best phones at the time. However, the battery life was perceived as less. The price of the K700i came out around 380 euros.
