Facebook and Instagram are experiencing a service disruption (22 July 2026)

Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, amongst others, appears to be experiencing a technical fault. Following problems with the social network three days ago, the issue has resurfaced today. The fault began on Wednesday afternoon.

Outage affecting Facebook and Instagram

If you’re trying to check your friends’ status updates on Facebook or view new stories on Instagram, you may find that this isn’t working. Meta’s social networks are experiencing an outage affecting users worldwide. The outage appears to be affecting some users more than others. For example, the service is unavailable via the website, but the app is still working (to some extent). The same applies to Instagram, although pages there often remain blank as well.

The disruption began on Wednesday afternoon, 22 July, at around 1.30 pm. The cause of the disruption is unknown. It is also unclear how long the disruption will last. Facebook does not usually comment on such matters. Should there be any updates, we will update this article.
