EufyCam 3 security camera review: keep an eye on things in 4K

Eufy makes numerous home and garden security products. Besides smart doorbells, we also find security cameras’s in the portfolio. Today, we dive into the eufyCam 3, or the S330, does this set know how to properly secure your home or does the security guard turn a blind eye?

Eufycam 3 review

Previously, we were introduced to the smart doorbell in the Eufy E340 video doorbell review. This time, we pair an eufyCam S330 with our Eufy setup to discover what you can do with this security camera. Not only as a standalone device but also in combination with the smart doorbell. Incidentally, this camera is also known under the name eufyCam 3, which is therefore exactly the same model.

What can you do with the eufyCam 3?

The eufyCam 3 is made to keep an eye on your front yard, garage or backyard, for example. Not only during the day but also in the dark, on the device we also find a bright LED spotlight that puts you right in the light. There are also built-in microphones so that sound can also be recorded. The top has a solar panel so the device can charge itself during the day.

The camera itself is fairly easy to attach with the ball head to, for example, the wall, with two plugs and screws, then you turn the camera on the holder and adjust it so that the desired area is visible on the camera. The screw material is of the same quality as the doorbell, though.

These cameras also include the Homebase 3, which serves as a storage device for video clips, but also has smart recognition software to recognise situations. The camera can also recognise faces, telling you who has been in the backyard, for example. That face recognition sometimes leaves something to be desired, the BionicMind AI that is supposed to recognise faces leaves stitches and in the dark it is often "human" instead of the right person.

It is also striking that the camera occasionally detects objects while it is a bit windy in the backyard. Nothing wrong and no intruder to be seen. While it is possible to adjust the sensitivity of the camera slightly, you don't want events to be missed either. At night, the eufyCam 3 works reasonably well, the image quality is not 100% sharp but clear enough to see the neighbourhood cat making its regular round through the garden sometime between 4 and 5.

Homebase and app

If you have multiple cameras, you can put them to work via cross-camera tracking. In the Eufy app, you will then find events merged when you pass multiple cameras. In our case, there is often too much time between cameras so events are not merged. In our review on the Eufy video doorbell, we will go into a bit more detail on the app's features!

Besides the standard available storage of 16 gigabytes, you can also expand the Homebase 3 with a 2.5-inch-sized hard disk so that your video clips are stored for a long time. You can connect up to 16 cameras per Homebase.

Battery

Very nice such a security camera with solar panel, but how long does the thing actually last? Over the past two months, the camera has managed to keep its battery percentage stable at 59% with little sunshine. Fortunately, the last few days have been sunny and you can see that right away. So we can't tell you how long a battery charge lasts but what is clear is that if the device gets a bit of sunlight you theoretically never need to recharge!

Review

The Eufycam S330 from Eufy is quite an investment when buying a security camera. On the positive side, video clips are stored on your own Homebase, although the person recognition sometimes leaves something to be desired on that same Homebase. During the day, the image quality is nice and sharp and the camera does a good job. At night, the image is a bit fainter and we sometimes suffer from false positives. A duo-pack of two cameras and a Homebase will cost you around 320 euros. You can find the set at Bol.com, Coolblue, Amazon or Mediamarkt.
