DroidApp is 12 years old: we're celebrating with a new app!

A new milestone for DroidApp! What started as a hobby project is now a well-known name in Android-land. We're celebrating our twelfth anniversary, and we're celebrating it with you!

12 years of DroidApp

It was 16 February 2014 when DroidApp.co.uk was launched. After my position as editor for GSM Helpdesk fell away in that year, I missed sharing the passion in articles. Together with Luke, DroidApp was rigged up. And still we share our passion, independently and with great pleasure. This together with Kelly: she too has been involved in DroidApp for many years. Now we are twelve years on.

DroidApp is a serious platform where we discuss news, apps, providers, smartphones, tips and everything more around Android. Every day, we do our utmost to provide you with the best content. And we do it with love. We want to thank you, you the reader. We have received many tips, compliments and feedback over the past 12 months, and we are very happy about that! Please keep it up!

A quick look back: we started with a green logo and the website has since been updated several times with a fresh design. We became big with the weather app test, which first appeared in 2014, with the 11th edition coming out in 2025. We spent months researching the best weather app. We have also had our 'Forgotten' section for years, where we discuss many different phones and smartphones from years back! Two years ago, we also had something special: the DroidApp Magazine with highlights of ten years of DroidApp. Still definitely worth a visit!

And now it was also time for another big step: a completely new version of the DroidApp App. Lately, Luke has been working hard on a new, fresh app: here is DroidApp App 4.0.

We did some tinkering on our app, as there was still some overdue maintenance on the shelf. For instance, we changed the home screen a little bit and went with the Material 3 Floating Bar. Under the third option in the bar, you will now find everything that used to be in the hamburger menu!

Another important item is that we have changed our item view slightly. With a bit more space in the items and some important bug fixes like being able to view YouTube videos that we sometimes post with our articles.

Super handy is also now that we automatically follow your phone's theme. If you use a dark theme in the evening, you no longer have to manually adjust our app. In addition, we have already tested whether our app works on Android 17! Furthermore, we cleaned up a few things under the app's bonnet and improved some logic so that we can continue to bring you the latest news via the DroidApp App with ease.

There are still some ideas ready on the shelf for our app, but if you have a great suggestion be sure to let us know! Have fun reading the revamped DroidApp App! The rollout is taking place from now and will be finalised in the coming days.
