Annual review of 2025
On DroidApp, we have once again provided you with the most important news over the past year. New phones, apps and all the other news passes by on DroidApp. The year 2025 was especially the year of thin smartphones. Samsung came out with the Galaxy S25 Edge, Apple with the iPhone Air and Motorola with the Edge 70. It was not a real sales hit with Samsung. In the process, the trifold (double-folding) smartphone made its debut at Samsung.
At the end of the year, we like to look back on the past year. In the past few weeks, several nice lists appeared, which we list below. Now it's time for the 2025 news summary.

January
The year 2025 kicked off with the introduction of the new Samsung Galaxy S25 series. But OnePlus also presented its new flagship: the OnePlus 13, which was accompanied by the OnePlus 13R. Interesting news was also about weather apps. Indeed, several Dutch-based weather apps took the KNMI app to court. In the end, KNMI was ruled in favour.

February
DroidApp celebrated its 11th anniversary in February. Eleven years of DroidApp! I didn't dare dream that at the beginning either. Still sharing our passion and enthusiasm in all articles. In February, Samsung Wallet was released in the Netherlands and Belgium. OnePlus was also in the news. Its new smartwatch, the OnePlus Watch 3, came to market later, as there was a sloppy spelling mistake on the watch: "Meda in China". Provider KPN came up with more benefits for existing customers, giving you free Netflix, for example. You still have to turn it on yourself, though.

March
March was the month when we travelled to Singapore for the announcement of the Poco F7 series. Samsung presented the new Galaxy A36 and A56 and Xiaomi with the new 15 and 15 Ultra. The Nothing brand came out with the (3a) and (3a) Pro in March. That month it was also announced that OnePlus would say goodbye to the Alert Slider, KPN was rated the best carrier in the Netherlands and Meta AI has been available in Meta's various apps since March; i.e. Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp. The third month of the year also saw EasyPark's huge price increase.

April
The month of April starts, of course, with 1 April, and this year too, there were plenty of funny jokes passing by. Of course, there was room for more news. For instance, the Consumers' Association took action against Facebook, Motorola was there with the new Razr 60 series and Edge 60 models. KPN introduced the TV+ Soundbox as a new TV receiver. OnePlus announced that, for now, it no longer sees any point in foldable smartphones, such as the OnePlus Open. Google released the Pixel 9a in the Netherlands and Komoot announced that many useful features will be paid from now on.

May
The fifth month of 2025 was another month full of news. There, Google presented Android 16 and Wear OS 6. That was not the only thing, as we also got to see the new design style; Material Expressive 3. Rumours also came in that Xiaomi is working on a HyperOS 3 version that is free from Google. Mozilla discontinued Pocket and Huawei presented new watches.

June
June was the month when the Fairphone 6 was announced. In addition, the new Android version, Android 16, became available for the first devices. Of course, first up was the Pixel devices. Manufacturer OnePlus presented the Pad 3. Facebook made negative headlines; as the social network was said to be heavily monitoring Android users.

July
Samsung ushered in the summer with the announcement of the Galaxy Z Flip 7, Fold 7 and Flip 7 FE. Also there was the Galaxy Watch 8. Nothing presented its new flagship device, the Nothing Phone (3). The brand also came out with the Nothing Headphone (1). OnePlus also had another new product to announce; the OnePlus Nord 5 was shown.

August
As often happens in summer, it was relatively quiet with news. Still, we did see a few announcements. Except for Google. They presented the Pixel 10 series, as well as the Pixel Watch 4 and the Buds 2a. At Samsung, the curtain went down on the Galaxy Tab S10 Lite and also on the Galaxy Buds 3 FE. Poco, the subsidiary brand of Xiaomi, also showed us a new device, namely the low-cost Poco M7.

September
September saw the publication of our new edition of weather app test 2025, examining the most accurate weather app after months of research. DroidApp travelled to Munich in September, where Xiaomi presented the new Xiaomi 15T series. The company also showed the HyperOS 3 here and TomTom made its presence felt. The company behind the world-famous navigation systems presented driving assistant Tom as a gadget. Sony came out with the Xperia 10 VII, Samsung with the Galaxy S25 FE. This month, Spotify also came out with improvements for free users, now allowing you to choose your own songs from a playlist.

October
October was the month when we went to Prague to test the OnePlus 15's camera. This made us one of the first in the world to experience the OnePlus 15 in person. Google made changes to its strategy around security updates. It was also the month when major outages came, at Amazon and Microsoft for instance. KPN customers experienced problems at the border and Oppo came out with the new Find X9 series. Need inspiration for your Spotify, you can now use ChatGPT to create playlists. Also, you can now learn to play chess in Duolingo.

November
Last month, in November, we shared news about Quick Share. The quick share feature in Android can now handle AirDrop on the iPhone. There was another major outage this month, including at Cloudflare, which knocked out many services. OnePlus showed the OnePlus 15, Motorola came out with the Edge 70. At Poco, the curtain was pulled back on the new Poco F8 models.

December
So far, December has been fairly quiet, as is the case every year. Many manufacturers prefer to focus on the new launches next year. Still, there was some news to report. For instance, we managed to report that Samsung Galaxy devices have not been getting Google Play updates for months and Motorola is coming out with two new smartphones in January: the Signature and presumably a new foldable. OnePlus showed the 15R and two other products and you can now use Google Translate to learn a language, just like you are used to from Duolingo. Listings also appeared, both from DroidApp and other companies. For instance, Google released Year in Search 2025 and, of course, there was Spotify Wrapped. On your Pixel, you can now use the low-power mode of Maps. On DroidApp, you can now find the lists of indispensable apps from the DroidApp writers and the DroidApp Awards featuring the best smartphones of 2025.
