Casting videos with Android Auto soon?
Judging from the latest reports on Android Auto, we can expect a very fine feature in due course. In the code of the latest beta version of the app, there are clues pointing to an ability to cast content to the Android Auto screen. Google is said to have now started testing this support. It should become possible to not only cast music, but also videos to the car's screen.
What exactly this will look like is not yet entirely clear. After all, watching videos while driving is distracting in traffic. It may well work only when the car is stationary. For example, if you have an electric car, and it is at the charging station, although further information on this is still lacking. Casting is not entirely new. In fact, the functionality is already available in cars running Android Automotive. With this move, this functionality should also be rolled out to Android Auto itself.
Currently, the feature is still in a testing phase. It is not known when Google will make it widely available to the public.
Media player revamped
There is news not only about the cast functionality in Android Auto. Google is also working on a new music player for Android Auto. The new media player will come in a Material 3 Expressive jacket. We already know this new interface from Android 16, where Google also applies this new design language. Among other things, work has been done on an updated display of buttons, with a new progress bar as well. Colours are also better matched in this interface. This applies not only to the player itself, but the smaller widget on the split screen is also updated.
