First screenshots of Android 17
Behind the scenes, Google is still busy further optimising and improving Android 16. Yet the company is not sitting still, and a new Android version will be presented in the coming months: Android 17. This new Android version is now popping up in screenshots shared by colleagues at 9to5Google, who have been working on it.

New is the blurring effect added with Android 17, including changing the volume slider from a plain light/dark background to a translucent material showing the (Dynamic Colour) background, and replacing the three-dot icon with a clearer symbol. In the full volume panel, app icons are now visible at the bottom. In addition, the power menu has a translucent background with a clear blurring of the current screen.

Android 17 also introduces a lighter screen capture interface with a floating menu. On activation, a pop-up appears with options for device sound, microphone and touch gestures, while the counter remains visible in the status bar. Tapping on it opens the control panel, where you can draw, adjust settings and preview afterwards to share or edit.

Finally, Android 17 brings another new feature. There will be a feature to lock apps via long press, although the feature has not yet been fully fleshed out. In addition, the Bubble feature no longer seems to be only for talking apps.
When is Android 17 coming?
When Android 17 will finally become available is not known. In November 2024, Android 16 became official with the first Developer Preview. Months later was only the final announcement and release of the version. In doing so, it may well be that the stable version of Android 17 will get additional features, or that Google will delete features again.
