Android 17 Beta 4
The time has come for the latest beta version of Android 17 to be made available. Google has released Android 17 Beta 4 for Pixel owners who are part of the beta programme. Three weeks after the previous release, this is the last scheduled beta of the release cycle. This means Google can now get its hands on the final stable update. We have seen with previous beta releases, though, smaller updates with bug fixes appearing in between.

The update to Android 17 Beta 4 addresses a large number of issues. In addition, 9to5Google highlights a few more innovations. For instance, we see some minor changes to the interface, including a new Easter Egg. When you run out of notifications, the screen shows 'You're all caught up', instead of saying 'No notifications'. Google has also been working on a new system icon.

Bug fixes
The bug fixes addressed by the update are as follows;
- An issue where webpage URLs were automatically included when sharing screenshots from the preview view, causing unwanted image file links to be shared.
- An accessibility issue caused the device to become completely unusable and unresponsive.
- An issue where the media control widget could disappear or stop working when navigating between multiple active media sessions.
- An issue where Dream Services failed to correctly process important events, trigger Keyguard bouncer prompts or perform service lifecycle callbacks.
- An issue that prevented users from downloading and applying cinematic or local weather background effects.
- An issue where the device crashed and spontaneously rebooted while typing in messaging apps.
- A critical system instability issue that caused the device to freeze and crash during normal use.
- An issue causing devices to charge significantly slower when the battery is close to 80% full, resulting in long waits before the device reaches the desired charging state and switches to bypass mode.
- A display problem that caused multicoloured horizontal lines to randomly cover the device's screen.
- Pulling down the notification panel while processing a feedback report could cause a system UI crash and a stuck device.
- Critical system components, including Pixel Launcher and navigation, may crash or become unresponsive for several minutes after a device reboot.
- An accessibility issue that prevented users from interacting with apps correctly after minimising the app and returning to the split-screen view.
- An issue that prevented Bluetooth from being re-enabled after it was disabled via the system settings or quick settings panel.
- Notifications marked with setSilent(true) may play unexpected alert sounds on Android 16 when multiple notifications are present in the notification panel.
- Wi-Fi analysis tools do not detect available Wi-Fi signals, making network scans and signal monitoring impossible.
