Best apps of 2025
On DroidApp, we not only discuss the news, but also cover smartphones, tips, specials and, of course, apps. In the month of December, we look back extensively on the past year, and in this article we look at the 20 best apps of 2025. What are the best apps of the year? We list them in no particular order. This week, we published our publication of the DroidApp Awards 2025, featuring the best smartphones of the past year.
Reading tip from last year: The 31 best Android apps of 2024

Androidify
Google is reviving the app Androidify! Years ago, this app disappeared, but in September Google brought it back. Androidify lets you build your own Android robot, now using AI. Here, you can import a photo of yourself, and have it transformed into an Android robot. However, you can also enter a prompt with what the robot of your desires should look like. Plenty of possibilities!

AllTrails
Earlier this year, we covered the app AllTrails, in the AllTrails review. This application is a handy app for hikers at home and abroad. In the application, you will find many routes, maps and useful information. You can also use AllTrails for your cycling route or horse riding, as well as running or walking. You can use filters to find a route that suits your needs, such as based on what you want to see, distance, interests and difficulty level.

Weatheronline
Weeronline's app emerged as the winner in our annual comprehensive Weather App Test 2025. The Dutch developer's app managed to score the most points with its accuracy, and Weeronline's operation and information is also very nice. You have accurate insight into the weather for the next 48 hours, and the coming days. Of course, there is a radar and you can see at a glance whether it will stay dry for another hour to go for a walk.

Gemini
More and more, we are encountering AI in everyday life. Not only is there ChatGPT, Google has Gemini. In the past year, improvements have been rolled out for this. For instance, the AI model has been improved with Gemini 3.0, but another important improvement has been made. With Nano Banana Pro, you create even more realistic images. We mentioned this in the article we wrote earlier, where we were impressed by the results.

Notion
We reviewed this incredibly fine note-taking app in a previous Notion review. The application allows you to keep track of your notes and lists on multiple platforms, including Android. In doing so, you can work with handy actions, to insert a table, work with a different formatting or perform other actions. Notion also includes an AI function that can quickly get to work for you to save time.

Proton Authenticator
Several services require you to log in with an Authenticator app. You already know these apps from Microsoft or Google, for example, but now the privacy-friendly Proton joins in, with Proton Authenticator. You can use the app to log in using 2FA and it offers support for multiple devices. High security has been worked on, as you would expect from Swiss company Proton.

HomeWizard
At the end of 2025, HomeWizard released a completely revamped app. This included a series of fine widgets that you can use on your Android device. But the app itself has also been updated, with a new design. This gives you even better insight into your energy feed-in, as well as your energy consumption. We also published this year's HomeWizard Plug-in Battery review, in which we discuss this fine tool in a sustainable future.

A familiar app to many, but no less important for that. Over the past year, WhatsApp's developers have been working on a lot of new features. Chat privacy was a much-discussed feature of WhatsApp. But also came a countdown timer when sending videos, you can use a chat theme since this year, you can adjust the download quality and a host of other improvements have been added. Also, you can now follow DroidApp on WhatsApp, on the DroidApp channel!

Google Maps
Another app that deserves some attention this year is, of course, Google Maps. For many, it has been an indispensable app last year. Several improvements have been made in recent months. For Pixel devices, there is now a power-efficient mode, there are improvements for electric cars in Android Auto, Gemini gets a more prominent place, the design has been revamped with Material 3 Expressive and you can personalise the navigation icon even more extensively.

Q-Park app
We also reviewed the Q-Park app on DroidApp. The app gained considerable popularity after EasyPark raised its prices for parking substantially. This made you pay hefty extra in transaction fees. With the Q-Park app, which you can also use for street parking, you pay no extra fees. The app offers several useful additions, even if you do park in a Q-Park car park. We have included the app in our overview of parking apps.

ABRP
If you own an electric car, then the ABRP app is an incredibly useful application to have on your phone. We have reviewed the app in detail before. It plans routes for you, along with the charging stops needed for your specific car. The ABRP 6.1 update released this year brings a more complete version to Android Auto and you can now use route labels, which provide additional information with different route options.

Taskito
A very nice tasks app we reviewed on DroidApp is Taskito. This application makes it easy to keep track of your tasks. Conveniently, you can also set the urgency per task, so you can find them faster in your notification screen. The app can sync with more of your devices, and recently there is a web app where you can keep track of your tasks. What's nice is that you can also repeat tasks and specify that you want to receive multiple notifications of a task.

Afvalwijzer
In many municipalities, you can use the Afvalwijzer app to see when the rubbish will be collected. A major update was released earlier this year with many improvements. It was much needed, as the version before it had some flaws. In the new version, there is a new design that is more pleasant to read, and also clearer.

Komoot
Komoot is an incredibly useful application for finding hiking, cycling, mountain biking routes and more. In the past year, it has released a fine update that has given the application a new lick of paint, complete with new icons, icons and finer controls. Komoot gives you access to more than 7 million routes at home and abroad, so there's always a route for you among them. You can also create your own route. Too bad 2025 also decided to move more functionality behind the pay wall.

Google Translate
If you go on holiday abroad and don't (completely) speak the language, Google Translate is an incredibly useful tool. The application lets you translate pictures, but you can also have conversations where the Translate app acts as an interpreter. With the latest update, you can use Google Translate to learn a new language. You choose the goals you want to achieve, then Translate will grab the exercises for you.

GasAll
Planning a holiday to Spain? Then the GasAll app really can't be missing on your smartphone. This handy application gives you insight into current fuel prices in Spain. For petrol, diesel, LPG and more. Handy, because prices can vary considerably from place to place. Recently, the app received a major update with a new design.

Binge
The app Binge gives you access to a large database of titles that can be found on streaming services. Binge describes itself as a personal guide to films and series on all streaming services. In the settings, you can choose the streaming services you want to include in your overview. Whether this is Netflix, Videoland, NPO Start, Disney+ or another platform: it can be found in Binge.

MedApp
When you take medication, it can sometimes be a bit difficult to keep track of it. The MedApp can help. This application lets you keep track of which medicines you take, and so you don't forget, you can set reminders for this. The application also lets you keep track of what medication you have in the house, allowing you to keep track of your stock. You can also keep a medical diary and, thanks to the link with some pharmacies, you can order medication directly via the MedApp app.

ING
ING's developers have not been idle over the past year. With quite a few updates, necessary improvements have been made to the app. From now on, the app is no longer called "Banking" but simply "ING". Furthermore, you can now choose an avatar, you can use the function of rounding and investing, as well as choose 'Savings Lock'.

Weather.co.uk
You would think by now that enough weather apps have been released for your smartphone. The developers of Weer.nl thought otherwise. Indeed, earlier this year, they released the Weer.nl app. This application gives you the weather for the coming days and hours at a glance. The app also includes a weather forecast and rain radar.
Bonus tip: DroidApp App
Of course, our very own DroidApp App should not be missing on your smartphone or tablet. Our free application keeps you up to date with the most important news from home and abroad. Whether it is about applications, smartphones, providers or other news; you will find it in the app. You also have access to the device database with specifications and current prices.
