'Xiaomi collaborates with Huawei and OnePlus on Google-free HyperOS 3'.

Xiaomi is reportedly developing a new software skin without the presence of Google services. The manufacturer is collaborating with Huawei and BKK for this. The latter is the parent company of Oppo and OnePlus, among others.

HyperOS 3 without Google services?

HyperOS is the name of the skin laid over Android by Xiaomi. The interface skin was previously known as MIUI. For years now, the software skin has featured the necessary integrations and presence of Google services. Judging from the new rumours, it seems Xiaomi is working on a version of HyperOS 3 without Google integration. For this, the manufacturer is collaborating with other Chinese manufacturers. Mentioned are Huawei and BKK, the parent company of Oppo and OnePlus.

A few years ago, the door closed on Huawei, due to US sanctions. America accused Huawei of spying, but provided no evidence of this. Meanwhile, tensions between America and China have risen again due to trade sanctions. Xiaomi now seems to fear the 'Huawei effect' and behind the scenes is preparing for different scenarios. To avoid being surprised, Xiaomi is reportedly working behind the scenes on a Google-free version of HyperOS. This means a software version is in development with no Google integration and also no pre-installed apps from Google. This should be similar to Huawei's HarmonyOS, which also comes without Google services.

Huawei's experience with the setbacks it has had would reportedly help in developing Xiaomi's new update. Whether there is immediate cause for concern, there is no telling. For now, Xiaomi holds a licence to use Android, but no one knows what the Trump administration decides in a time. Xiaomi has not responded to the reports. It seems mostly a back-up plan, with Xiaomi having an alternative ready immediately, should things get out of hand as we have seen with Huawei and Honor. After all, phones without Google services are much less popular, as we saw with Huawei.
