Xiaomi announces HyperOS 3.0: new skin based on Android 16

A new version of Xiaomi’s own software skin HyperOS has been announced. The new HyperOS 3.0 is based on Android 16, and gets several new features and improvements. The first rollout should start soon.

HyperOS 3.0

HyperOS 3.0 is Xiaomi's new skin; based on Android 16. First to be announced is the software for home country China. A European/global announcement may follow later. For now, at least, we get to know the necessary details in advance. HyperOS 3.0 has been working on several visual changes, with new icons and a revamped status bar. Also new is the Super Island, which we already know from other brands such as Samsung, Apple and OnePlus. At Apple, this is called Dynamic Island. The feature provides information about real-time app activity. Think bookings, the music player with controls or, for example, about your flight.

So with HyperOS 3.0, we see the new icons, which do look a bit like Apple iOS. The icons are all slightly different from the current HyperOS 2.0. You can customise the home screen and there is also a newly designed calling app. However, it is quite possible that this is only for the home country. This is because in the European ROM, Xiaomi uses Google's own phone app. Another option, which OnePlus also offers, for example, is the ability to connect to an iPhone or Mac to transfer data. This works in a sort of AirDrop way, but with an app from Xiaomi itself.

The stable version is expected in the fourth quarter of this year; at least for China. For several devices, the manufacturer will start a beta programme, but nothing is known about this yet for our market.
