Xiaomi 17 Ultra announced
The Xiaomi 17 series was previously announced for the Chinese market, now an Ultra model joins it. It is the successor to the Xiaomi 15 Ultra, which we previously put to the test extensively in the review. The manufacturer previously announced that the device was coming, and now it has. Presumably, the device will get a European release soon. Actually, there are two models presented by Xiaomi. Because the brand has also announced the Leica edition, which offers even more functionality.
Xiaomi 17 Ultra
First of all, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra. That device has a familiar design, as with its predecessor, including the round camera module. This device also collaborates with Leica, offering a 50-megapixel main camera along with a 200-megapixel periscope lens. Finally, the phone offers a 50-megapixel wide-angle lens with autofocus support as well.
Xiaomi gives the device a 6.9-inch AMOLED display. It offers a maximum refresh rate of 120Hz and a resolution of 2608 x 1200 pixels. According to Xiaomi, the device achieves a peak brightness of 3,500 nits. The screen houses the ultrasonic fingerprint scanner and a 50-megapixel front-facing camera. On board, you'll find the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, along with up to 16GB of RAM and up to 1TB of storage. Of course, you'll find Android 16 on the device, and HyperOS 3.0 can be found on the device.
A hefty 6800mAh battery of the Xiaomi 17 Ultra can be found inside the device. This is a silicon-carbon battery with support for 90W wired charging and 50W wireless charging. There is an infrared sensor, dual-sim support, Hi-Res Audio with stereo speakers, IP66/68/69 certification, WiFi 7, Bluetooth 6.0 and satellite communication and NFC. The device comes out in purple, green, white and black.
Leica edition
Then there is also a special Leica edition of the 17 Ultra. It offers the same specifications as the standard variant. Most important is the mechanical zoom ring around the camera module. This lets you control focal length, exposure and white balance. Externally, the camera can be recognised by its two-colour design, inspired by the Leica M models. There is a ribbed pattern with a recognisable red logo.
On the software front, there is also some expansion. The device offers a Leica Moment mode with a 3:2 aspect ratio. There is also a security and encryption chip and support for dual-satellite communication. The device comes with a lens cap, a carrying cord, magnetic case and a cleaning cloth. The Xiaomi 17 Ultra Leica Edition will come in black and white.
For now, the devices have only been announced for home country China. We expect a global release in the coming months. Then we will probably get to see the other Xiaomi 17 models as well.
