Wear OS 6 enters new testing phase: test it yourself

Wear OS 6 was announced by Google last week. Now the company is starting the availability of the new version, through the project's first developer release.

As of now, Google is offering the opportunity to test Wear OS 6. Last week, Wear OS 6 was announced. It features a new design and new options. Wear OS 6 is based on the new Android 16, and you're going to see that reflected in the interface. It also features the new Material 3 Expressive design. It is suspected that after the test version, we are going to see the new version back on Samsung's upcoming Galaxy Watch 8.

What's new with Wear OS 6?

  • Smooth design for circular displays:
    • Scroll animations follow the curvature of the screen.
    • Lists are animated as you scroll, for a sense of depth and easier access to3t information.
    • Revised daily functions (pinpad, media controls) with motion and responsive feedback.
    • Smooth transitions with shape-shifting elements that adapt to the smaller screen size.
    • Dynamic colour themes are brought to the watch, with the watch face theme applied to the entire system.
    • System of clear buttons running all over the screen (space-saving, easy to touch).
    • More attractive tiles with quick access to important information or actions.

Furthermore, Wear OS 6 offers improved performance. Google also promises 10 per cent longer battery life in the process. When the final version of Wear OS 6 will be released is not known. For now, you can get started with the trial version, if you have a suitable (Pixel) smartwatch.
